Southern Miss built a 3-0 advantage on the strength of a sacrifice fly by Tim Lynch in the third and then a RBI triple from Nick Dawson in the eighth before scoring one pitch later on a wild pitch. The Tigers, though, took advantage of a Golden Eagle fielding error to start the bottom of the frame and loaded the bases before Cullen Wacker delivered a bases-clearing double to tie the game at 3-3. The game remained that way until the 11th when Garrett Cooper drew a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice and an intentional walk as well as a popout to the catcher, Ortman delivered the game-winning blow off USM reliever Cameron Gianni.
